Lead Abatement Training & Certification

The State of Michigan and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) offers training and certification for those wishing to become certified lead professionals. Below are a few of the programs offered through the MI Lead Safe initiative.

LEAD ABATEMENT WORKERS perform lead abatement and remediation activities under the supervison of a certified lead abatement supervisor.

LEAD ABATEMENT SUPERVISORS oversee lead abatement and remediation projects by supervising abatement workers and preparing occupant protection plans and reports.

LEAD ABATEMENT FIRMS/CONTRACTORS perform lead abatement and remediation services in older homes.

LEAD INSPECTORS/RISK ASSESSORS identify lead-based paint by testing all painted surfaces using an X-Ray Flourescence (XRF) device. Painted surfaces may include windows, walls, doors, siding, etc. Risk Assessors also identify lead-based paint hazards using an XRF device to test deteriorated paint and by collecting dust, soil, and sometimes water samples.
